The business world is changing rapidly and nowhere is that change more evident than in the rise of the Internet as a medium for marketing, sales and brand building. While some Australian businesses have embraced the Internet, others have been slow to use this medium in the belief that it could detract from their traditional business model. Sadly, many have left their run late allowing others to occupy a portion of cyberspace that should be theirs. This course, an adjunct to our course on Marketing for Small Business, will demystify the Internet and show you how you can use it to grow your business at very little cost.


This is a practical course offered by a qualified trainer. Participants will be given step-by-step guidance on the fundamental principles of Internet marketing including how to build an effective website or modify an existing one so that it becomes an efficient marketing tool for your business. Participants will also learn how to use social media to drive business, increase sales and create brand loyalty.

Through instruction as well as guided exercises you will learn how to

  • Develop an effective internet strategy for your business that will increase your profitability
  • Use the tools you need for increasing your visibility on the Internet
  • Use social media to increase your customer base and build your brand
  • Serve a global market for your product or service
  • Develop a brief that you can give a professional designer that will enable you to be in control of your website development.


On completion of this course, participants will be able to develop and implement an effective Internet strategy for their business and have the knowledge and confidence to explore further on their own


This course is designed for small business owners and those who are considering starting their own business. Participants will need to have functional use of a computer including access to the Internet as well as writing skills.

Computers will not be used in class, but participants should bring a pen and paper.

Participants will also be expected to have a knowledge of their industry as well as government regulations that affect their industry.


Activities, based on templates provided, are designed to assist participants in the development of a business marketing strategy relevant to their own situation.

Note: This unit is offered as part of the Marketing for Small Business course and also as a stand-alone unit. The ‘lite’ version of Marketing for Small Business does not include this unit.

This course is presented over one three-hour learning session that provides opportunities for face-to-face mentoring by a qualified Australian trainer.
